"There’s a picture that sits on my studio desk - of my childhood best friend, John. We played guitar together. We sang together. We’d drive up and down Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls as young men, just dreaming out loud. Then he passed away suddenly when I was 16. For a long time, talking about it would just stir up the ache. But over the years, something shifted. I don’t look at that picture and feel only sadness anymore. I feel strength. I feel lucky. I feel grateful that I got to love someone that much in the first place. The fact that I can still feel so much for him after all these years reassures me - that kind of love doesn’t disappear. It changes shape. It walks with you. That’s what “Somebody Somewhere” is about. It’s about the picture on your desk. The one in the hallway. The one at your mom’s house that never moves. It’s about loving someone who isn’t here anymore and realizing that instead of just feeling the loss, you can feel grateful for the love that remains," Marshall Dane.
"There’s a line in the song that gets me every time: “I thought we’d be forever or at least we’d be together, but you can’t count on things you don’t know,” Marshall Dane.
"Life keeps rolling. People slip away. But love doesn’t. This recording feels like a turning point for me. I didn’t compromise. I brought in players I trust. We built it slowly and honestly. And at the end, I let myself sing freely - the way I’ve always wanted to," Marshall Dane
