ASTRID YOUNG RELEASES EDDIE KRAMER-PRODUCED THE BEAUTIFUL CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER

FEATURING DAVID J (BAUHAUS, LOVE & ROCKETS).

Where country traditions meet an unflinching look at imbalance and excess

January 23, 2026 (Toronto, ON) //

Astrid Young has released her latest single, “The Beautiful Can Get Away with Murder,” featuring David J (Bauhaus, Love &
Rockets), the first taste of her forthcoming LP produced by legendary engineer and
producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Eric Clapton,
The Kinks, John Mellencamp).

Rooted in Americana with a restrained country pull, “The Beautiful Can Get Away With Murder” explores how privilege and charisma distort accountability. Rather than moralizing, Young presents the story as lived understanding rather than outrage, with the battle-weariness of someone who has seen this cycle recur enough times to stop expecting anything else. It’s a narrative where all the evidence exists, the consequences don’t, and that cruel imbalance Is understood rather than lamented.

That restraint carries into the production. Recorded under Kramer’s guidance alongside longtime collaborators, the track prioritizes atmosphere over payoff. The guitar line lingers, like heat that refuses to break, slowly tightening its grip on the listener. The rhythm section grounds the tension rather than resolving it. Kramer’s production favours clarity and space, allowing the song’s weight to land without embellishment.

David J’s vocal and lyrical contribution introduces a subtle darkness that complements Young’s delivery without overtaking it. The result feels deliberate and measured, a collaboration shaped by career musicians who trust economy over excess.

About the song, collaborator David J says, “When Astrid asked if I happened to have any lyrics that would work for our upcoming session, I dusted off this unused true crime narrative and it fit like a bloody glove on the hand of the prime suspect!

Those sessions were a pure joy and working with the great producer, Eddie Kramer, meant that each day was a master class that I felt very privileged to attend. All of the musicians were top notch and Astrid is a kick ass songwriter and a truly beautiful soul!

“The Beautiful Can Get Away with Murder” sits comfortably within a longer arc of Young’s work. Its imagery ruminates on familiar themes: duality, perception, and the quiet violence of social imbalance. All that is conveyed with the assurance of artists who trust precision over excess, allowing the song’s weight to settle without needing to be underlined.

About Astrid Young: Astrid Young is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with influences that range from classical to heavy rock, with healthy lashings of prog, roots, blues, and country in between. Her discography dates back to 1984 and boasts over forty-five releases, including five solo albums and a multitude of credits as a side-musician and background singer. She’s toured the world singing backup for A-list acts, written several screenplays (some optioned), made a film, wrote a Canadian bestseller, and is an award-winning wine professional with three sommelier certifications—but beyond all that, the thing she’s most proud of is that her voice has been heard in space! (Neil Young’s Harvest Moon, which Astrid sings on, was “officially” played on the ISS).

Currently at home in Ontario, Canada, Astrid is working on a new LP produced by the legendary Eddie Kramer and featuring members of the Violent Femmes and Bauhaus/Love & Rockets. The first single, The Beautiful Can Get Away With Murder, is a co-write and duet with bandmate David J, calling out the cult of celebrity and the public obsession with privilege that seems to forgive the most heinous acts imaginable.

Live highlights for 2025 included opening for Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts on their 2025 Canadian tour dates, followed by a sold-out solo tour in the Netherlands.

TORONTO, ON — Following a string of prestigious accolades, 19-year-old fiddler, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Irish Millie continues her remarkable ascent in the Canadian roots scene with the release of her latest single, "WASTED"

This landmark track serves as a centerpiece of her acclaimed EP 'Between Then and Now', a project that captures the space between two chapters of life and the quiet realization of how much growth happens in the in-between.

Irish Millie enters this new release on a wave of significant professional success. She is currently a seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, recently earning two 2026 nods for Young Performer of the Year and Single of the Year for her song "You Were There". These honors follow 2025 nominations for Folk Music Ontario’s Performing Artist of the Year and two additional CFMA nods for her previous boundary-pushing album, 'GRACE'.

Written during her first year away from home while moving from Peterborough to Toronto for university, "WASTED" is a tender reflection on the gratitude that comes with growing up and finally understanding the safety of one's foundation. The song explores the universal emotional distance created by independence and the realization that the people who raised us remain our most constant supporters.

The track finds its power in moments of everyday reflection, using familiar images like laundry and packed boxes to ground the feeling of moving on. Millie sings of the restless desire to walk away and start a new story, only to discover that the voices of those back home are the very keys that help when we feel lost. As the song builds, it captures that heavy moment of being alone and "wasted" on the side of the road, anchored by the comforting, timeless promise that love stays steady even when we feel a world away.

Musically, the single moves into a broader sonic landscape by incorporating piano, synth, and drums, allowing the emotion to build slowly alongside the fiddle. Millie recorded and co-produced the track in Toronto with her professor, Aaron Tsang, who provided a formative studio experience centered on restraint and spatial honesty. This collaboration, which features her father, Murray Shadgett, on guitar, highlights a shift away from strictly traditional boundaries toward a more cinematic and experimental storytelling approach.

Currently studying Music Industry and Technology at the University of Toronto, Millie continues to balance a rigorous academic schedule with a bustling international performance career. She has performed for crowds of over 10,000 and has earned praise from Celtic music royalty Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, who celebrated her "fresh, lively" approach to the genre.

From a university assignment to a celebrated single, "WASTED" captures the exact moment a young artist recognizes the strength of the hands that held her up, showing that we only truly understand where we’re going once we acknowledge where we came from.
