Following the release of “Wandering Soul”, one of her most revealing songs to date, Turner offers, “Marion”, a moving, mid-tempo Americana track that chronicles the battle of loving someone gripped by addiction. “Marion” will be released on Friday, October 18 2024.

Written by Jade Turner and longtime collaborator, Stephen Arundell (William Prince), “Marion” was co-produced by Stephen Arundell and Murray Pulver (Crash Test Dummies, Doc Walker).

About "Marion":

A poignant and thoughtful song about the battle of loving someone in the throes of addiction, Jade Turner’s “Marion” offers a stunning display of her shrewd songwriting skills, expansive vocal abilities, and remarkable capability to musically capture the devastating reality of addiction facing so many families. Intentionally written under the guise of a romance song, “Marion” is about seeing a loved one in the grips of substance abuse. On an Americana blend of acoustic and electric guitar, the instrumentation deliberately ebbs and flows under Turner’s touching lyrics, moving from sparse to full bodied as she shares the heartbreaking experience of seeing her loved one from a distance. Flawlessly moving between high and low registers, Turner’s expansive, emotive vocals power through the song, sharing a deeply personal experience that too many people also face. In a lyric that says “Marion, you won this round”, Turner makes it undeniably clear that addiction is a battle with many rounds, and that while this round may go to her loved one, she will always continue to fight for their wellbeing. Turner dedicates “Marion” to the people who love someone with addiction, recognizing the difficulty and complications they experience in the struggles they face.

Quote: “It’s not just the person facing addiction who is affected by it - all of their loved ones are as well. I knew if I was feeling this way, that somebody else would too. This song is for all of us who love somebody dealing with addiction.” - Jade Turner

Take the heartfelt storytelling of Patty Griffin, mixed with the raw authenticity of Zach Bryan and an occasional hint of Sheryl Crow's playfulness, and you've got Canadian Country and Americana artist Jade Turner. A proud member of the Misipawistik Cree Nation, Jade was raised in Northern Manitoba, with an upbringing rooted in the art of storytelling. Her lyrics tell personal tales that range from serious topics to satirical ones, delivered with dynamic vocals that span from gritty and raw to spirited and energetic. Despite a career that seemed nearly impossible due to the absence of Indigenous female representation in mainstream music, Jade credits blues artist Crystal Shawanda as one of her major inspirations, later teaming up to write "Deadweight," which was released in 2023 and received two awards for Song of the Year and Single of the Year at the Manitoba Country Music Awards that same year. In 2024, Jade became a semi-finalist in the 2024 Top of the Country with Sirius XM competition and recently received the Manitoba Music Kevin Walters Songwriter Award and the SOCAN Vince Fontaine Indigenous Song Award, along with four Manitoba Country Music Award nominations, bringing her total count to 27.

Jade has announced her third album, Breathe, will be released in the Winter of 2025.

A strong buzz has grown around this Toronto rock singer/songwriter…” - Billboard Canada

(September 13, 2024) - Acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Skye Wallace is back, announcing her highly anticipated new album, The Act of Living, arrives November 1, 2024 via Tiny Kingdom.

Alongside the announcement, Wallace shares the incredibly infectious, “Dead End”. Interweaving face-scrunching guitar riffs from Ryan Dahle (Limblifter, Mounties, Age of Electric), Hawksley’s Workman’s groove-driven drums, and Wallace’s unmistakable ethereal harmonies, the track is a powerful introduction to the upcoming album’s edgier sonic shift.

This was my take on a work of fiction dictating the story of the Reaper falling in love and being very upset about it,” explains Wallace. “I wanted to capture the eternal exhaustion of the infernal job title, and the wild panic that love instills in the heart of the Great Reckoner. I based the concept initially on City of Angels, where Nicholas Cage’s character is an angel who falls in love with a human and is given the choice to give up immortality and eternity in order to spend it with her. ‘Dead End’ is about a similar offer given to Death. The single is paired with an audio drama by the same name, featuring sound design by award-winning podcast editor J Strautman.

The song features incredible raucous guitar tones by Ryan Dahle, drums by my collaborator and co-producer Hawksley Workman, approximately a million vocal layers, and synthy spells concocted during a writing retreat I spent, alone, in an old cottage hospital in Western Newfoundland.”

With nods to Mitski, Laura Jane Grace, and The Knife, Wallace’s fifth studio LP blends heavy, grungy jams with tender, acoustic moments, all tied together by her unflinching lyricism. The Act of Living is all at once energizing, grinding, brittle, and electric; a sonic journey examining death and the ways it pushes life ever forward.

This record is about embracing the inevitable and finding meaning in the cycles of life and death,” says Wallace. “I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the fragility of life, and this album is my way of processing those thoughts and feelings.”

Skye Wallace will be celebrating the release with a special, launch day performance with
Wild Black & Ash Molloy at Toronto’s The Great Hall, November 1st.
